How to Disconnect Dish Network

By Edward Thomas

Dish Network is a popular satellite company that offers programming to millions of customers. The channels available range from local news to cartoons (and everything in between). For a customer that decides that Dish Network is not the best match for her situation, she can select to disconnect service. Disconnection can be done over the phone and provides immediate results. Unless the customer has purchased her equipment, Dish Network will send a box with a prepaid shipping label to her home. Dish Network will ask that the receiver(s) are returned to the company but will allow the dish to remain.

Step 1

Call Dish Network customer service at 1-888-686-2388. This is a toll-free call for most customers.

Step 2

Follow the prompts. Expect to be asked to enter you account number or the phone number associated with your account.

Step 3

Select “Speak with a Live Customer Service Representative” from the recorded menu. If this option is not available, you can press “0” to be automatically connected to the next available representative.

Step 4

Hold till a customer service representative comes on the line. Your wait may be several minutes.

Step 5

Provide the representative your account number, name and any other information requested. This is used to verify your identity and protect your account from unauthorized use.

Step 6

Tell the customer service representative that you would like to disconnect Dish Network. You will probably be asked why you are choosing to disconnect service. Be truthful with the representative and keep a calm tone. Some issues can be handled by the representative that may help change your mind about disconnecting.

Step 7

Confirm the disconnection date. If the disconnection should be immediate, you will need to confirm that programming is no longer available on your televisions.

Step 8

Hang up when the call is complete.

Step 9

Confirm that the disconnection was successful. If you were provided with a disconnection date, check the televisions to confirm that programming is no longer available. If programming is still available after the disconnection date, you will need to contact Dish Network customer service again.
