Microsoft Word works well for documents in a variety of fields and purposes. Writing a paper typically requires adhering to specific standards for paper size, line and paragraph spacing and page settings. These standards make it easier for the person marking up or grading the paper. Word 2007 includes easy to reach tools to customize the appearance of your paper as needed, including the double spacing requirement common on so many papers.
Open Microsoft Word using the "Start" menu or the shortcut on the desktop. Click the Office button and select the "Open" option.
Navigate to the location of your paper, click on it and click "Open." Press the "Ctrl" and "A" keys to select the whole document.
Click the "Line Spacing" icon in the Paragraph group of the home tab. It looks like a few lines with some arrows next to it. Select the "Double" option to make the whole document double spaced. Click anywhere on the document to deselect your text.
