How to Download iTunes to a Flash Drive

Transferring your iTunes library to a new computer can be achieved in a number of ways. You can use backup discs, wireless network transfers or download the information to a flash drive. Although the flash drive can only hold a limited amount of information, it is useful for quickly transferring music and installing your iTunes library on multiple computers.

Things You'll Need

  • iTunes
  • Flash drive

Download iTunes to Flash Drive for Macintosh Computers

Step 1

Plug your flash drive into your computer's USB slot.

Step 2

Double-click the "Finder" icon on your dock, and click the flash drive icon under the "Devices" section.

Step 3

Click "File" at the top of the screen, and click "New Finder Window" from the drop-down menu. Click the "Music" tab under the "Places" section in Finder, and double-click the "iTunes" folder.

Step 4

Drag the "iTunes Library" file to your flash drive icon, and drag the "iTunes Music Library.xml" file to the flash drive.

Step 5

Drag the "iTunes Music" folder to your flash drive.

Step 6

Click the flash drive icon, and then click the "Eject" icon once the transfer is finished. Remove the flash drive from your USB slot.

Step 1

Plug your flash drive into your computer's USB slot.

Step 2

Open Windows Explorer. Click "Start," "All Programs" and "Windows Explorer." Click the flash drive icon.

Step 3

Click "File" on the Windows Explorer screen, then click "New" and select "New Window."

Step 4

Click the "Music" tab under the "Places" section in Finder, and double-click the "iTunes" folder. Drag the "iTunes Library" file to your flash drive icon, and drag the "iTunes Music Library.xml" file to the flash drive.

Step 5

Drag the "iTunes Music" folder to your flash drive. Click the flash drive icon, and click the "Eject" icon once the transfer is finished. Remove the flash drive from your USB slot.
