How to Download Music From a USB Drive to iTunes

By Mario Calhoun

A USB drive is a small, portable storage device that allows you to easily transfer information between computers. These devices can hold between 2 to 16GB of data, and only require an available USB port on your computer. Whether you're switching to a new computer or simply want to have an additional copy of your music, you can transfer your music from your USB drive to your hard drive, and open the music file in iTunes.

Step 1

Insert the USB drive into your computer's USB port.

Step 2

Double-click the "My Computer" icon on your Windows desktop, and double-click the USB drive icon. For Macs, click the "Finder" icon on your dock and double-click the USB drive icon.

Step 3

Drag and drop the music files to your desktop to transfer them from the USB drive.

Step 4

Click "Start," "All Programs," "Apple" and "iTunes" to run iTunes on a PC. For Macs, click the "iTunes" icon on your dock.

Step 5

Click "File" at the top of the screen and click "Add to Library" from the drop-down menu.

Step 6

Locate the music files on your desktop, and hold the "Shift" key while clicking the files to highlight all of them. Click "Choose" to add them to iTunes.
