How to Download the Opera Browser
The Opera Web browser is an alternative to more common browsers, such as Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. After confirming your system meets the minimum requirements to run the software, you can download the installer directly from the Opera website and then install it on your computer.
Check Computer Requirements
Type "PC info" (without the quotation marks) on the Windows 8 Start screen, and then click "PC info" in the search results that appear on the screen. The PC and Devices screen opens.
Look at the Installed RAM field to confirm your computer has more than 512 MB of available RAM.
Press "Windows-D" to navigate to your desktop.
Click the "File Explorer" folder to open the This PC window. The amount of space available on your primary hard drive appears in gray lettering directly beneath the C drive. You should have more than 300 MB of available disk space to run the Opera Web browser.
Download and Install Opera
Open your Web browser and navigate to the Opera download page (see Resources).
Click "Free Download." The download will start automatically.
Click "File Explorer" after the download is completed and then click "Downloads."
Double-click the Opera setup file to launch the Web browser setup. The setup file will initially be extracted and then the Opera Installer dialog box appears.
Click "Accept and Install." A progress bar appears on the screen. After the progress bar reaches the end, the Opera Installer dialog box closes and the Opera Web browser launches.
