How to Enable Mcafee OAS

By Bennett Gavrish

McAfee is one of the leading producers of antivirus software for PC computers. With the latest version of its VirusScan software, McAfee has included a feature known as the On Access Scan, or OAS. The OAS feature provides constant protection of your PC from security threats and viruses. Since it uses a large amount of system memory to run, OAS is disabled by default. However, you can enable the On Access Scan from the McAfee menu.

Things You'll Need

  • PC running WIndows XP or later
  • McAfee VirusScan

Step 1

Make sure that the McAfee VirusScan software has been properly installed on your PC and that no other antivirus programs are running.

Step 2

Right-click on the shield icon in the system tray at the bottom of the screen and select "VirusScan Console."

Step 3

Double-click on the "On-Access Scanner" entry in the list of antivirus tasks.

Step 4

Click on the "General Settings" tab on the left side of the pop-up window.

Step 5

Go to the "General" tab at the top of the settings window.

Step 6

Check the box next to "Enable on-access scanning at system startup."

Step 7

Click "OK" to save the settings. Restart your computer to have the OAS feature start running.
