How to Erase a CDR

By Lawrence Stephens

The finalization of a CD-R makes it impossible to erase the data without destroying the disk. If you put data on a CD-R without finalizing it, you can continue to add and remove data just as you would with a rewritable disk. Deselecting the finalization option during the initial burning process will allow you to erase the data later.

Step 1

Insert the CD-R disc into the appropriate drive.

Step 2

Click "Start" and select "My Computer."

Step 3

Right-click on the CD/DVD drive icon, and select "Erase." The operating system will erase all of the files from the disk. If the disk has been finalized, you will receive an error message.
