How to Finalize a DVD-RW

By Stephen Lilley

DVD-RW discs often need to be finalized in order to be playable on certain standalone DVD players. To finalize a DVD-RW disc on your computer, you just need DVD-burning software.

Things You'll Need

  • DVD-burning software

Step 1

Open your DVD-burning software. If you don't already have a burning program installed on your computer, download one. See the "Resources" section for download information on Nero Burning Rom, which is used in this example, and DVD Shrink. Place a blank DVD-RW disc in your DVD-RW drive.

Step 2

Open the project you would like to burn to DVD.

Step 3

Click the "Burn" button. This will bring up a box of burner settings that can be changed, including drive speed and buffer speed.

Step 4

Check the box next to the "Finalize" option in the burn-settings box. This will ensure the disc is finalized upon completion.

Step 5

Click the "Burn" button again. This will write the files you've selected to the disc and will also finalize the disc.
