How to Find Cell Phone Coordinates
Most of us have seen a movie where the hero is chasing a bad guy and they are able to find them by triangulating the signal from their cell phone. While this does work, in reality it's not easy for the average person to do as it usually requires assistance from the phone company. However, with a free piece of software and an Internet connection it is possible to easily find the coordinates of a cell phone.
Things You'll Need
- Cell phone GPS software
Choose a GPS software. There are several free programs available including, Instamapper, and Google Maps (see "Resources" section below).
Register for the software. You will need to sign up on the site and provide information such as your name, user ID, phone number and cell phone carrier.
Install the software. After you've registered you will receive an e-mail or text message with a link in it. You need to follow that link in the web-browser on your phone and download and install the software by following the instructions provided.
Log on to the website that you've registered with and you will see a map with a red dot on it. The red dot is the cell phone. The coordinates with longitude, latitude and altitude are provided. Depending on which service you signed up with you may also get heading, speed and movement history.
