How to Find Your Laptop Battery Life

By Andrea Griffith

Most computers will tell you right on the toolbar how much battery life you have. Some laptops will tell you the percent remaining, how many hours/minutes you have left and then will give you a notice when it's time to plug it back in. Knowing how much time is left in your battery can be imperative if you do work or school work, or work from home on your computer. If your computer dies because it has run out of batteries, you could lose all unsaved work. If your battery life is not being shown on your toolbar, there is a way to pull it up.

For PCs

Step 1

Look at the bottom right corner of the screen. If your battery life bar shows up, this is the spot that it will be at.

Step 2

Click on "Start" at the bottom left corner of your screen.

Step 3

Click on "Programs" from the Start menu.

Step 4

Click on "Toolbar."

Step 5

Click on "BatteryBar" from the Tool menu. Choose to show the bar on your laptop's main toolbar by selecting "OK."The Battery Icon will be on the bottom right corner of your laptop's toolbar. Place your cursor over the icon, and the laptop will tell you how much battery life you have left.

For Macs

Step 1

Look at the top right corner of the screen (where the time is). A battery icon is there showing you how much life you have on your Mac. In the event it is not there, follow these steps.

Step 2

Step 3

Select "System Preferences" by clicking on it.

Step 4

Click on "Energy Saver" under "Hardware."
