How to Get GIFs on Facebook

By Paul Higgins

Uploading pictures in the Graphics Interchange Format, or GIF, to Facebook allows you to share them with your friends. The GIF format, due to its compression algorithm, lets users create pictures with a small file size, making it easy to send them by email or upload them to websites like Facebook. You can share any GIF picture on Facebook by either creating a new photo album if you want to share several pictures, or posting the picture to your wall if you only want to share a single GIF file.

Creating a Photo Album

Step 1

Visit the Facebook homepage, log in using your Facebook login credentials and click on the "Photo" link at the top of the homepage.

Step 2

Click on "Create an album." Then click on "Select photos" to open the file browser. Select the GIF pictures you want to upload by holding the CTRL key on your keyboard and clicking on the files. Finally, click on "Open."

Step 3

Give a title to your album, select who you want to share the album with and the picture quality you want Facebook to use. Then wait for Facebook to download the pictures from your computer, which can take from a few seconds to several minutes, depending on the number of pictures and your Internet connection. Finally, click on the "Create a photo album" button when it appears on your screen.

Posting a GIF Picture on Your Wall

Step 1

Visit the Facebook homepage, log in and click on "Photo" under your status. Then select "Upload a photo."

Step 2

Click on the "Browse" button and double-click on the picture you want to upload. Optionally, you can also type a caption in the field which is under the picture.

Step 3

Click on the "Share" button to post that GIF picture to your Facebook wall.
