How to Get Netflix to Work on a Mac

Netflix is a video streaming service you can access from both Windows and Apple computers. However, before using the Netflix website on a Mac computer, it must meet the minimum system requirements. Your Mac computer must have Mac OS X Tiger version 10.4.11 or higher installed and be Intel-based. Additionally, It must have at least 1GB of RAM installed and run version 3 of Safari or higher. After your Mac meets the operating system, memory and processor requirements, use the Software Update utility to update the version of Mac OS X Tiger or Safari to acceptable standards.

Step 1

Click the "Apple" logo in the top left corner of the menu bar on the desktop.

Step 2

Select "Software Update" from the drop-down list. The Software Update window opens and the system automatically checks Apple's servers for updates. Any available updates display in the window.

Step 3

Scroll through the list of updates, then click the check box next to any updates for "Safari" or "Mac OS X 10.4."

Step 4

Click the "Install" button, then enter the user name and password associated with your administrator's account when prompted. Restart the computer to complete the update.

Step 5

Launch Safari, open your Web browser and navigate to and sign in to your account.

Step 6

Navigate the available videos, then click the video you want to watch. The video automatically plays in the browser.

  • You need a high-speed Internet connection and a Netflix membership to use the Netflix online streaming service.
