How to Get Past a Code Lock on an iPhone 3G
If you have ever forgotten your passcode on your iPhone 3G, you know it can be frustrating. As soon as you turn on your iPhone 3G, it directs you to a code screen. Without the passcode, your iPhone won't let you get any further unless you need to make an emergency phone call. The only way to get past this security screen without the passcode is to hard reset the phone. This will delete all the contacts and music on the phone, but you will be able to use your phone again.
Things You'll Need
- Computer and iTunes
- Apple USB cord
Turn on your computer and navigate to your desktop screen. Connect your iPhone 3G to your computer via the Apple USB cord. You should already have Apple iTunes installed on your computer. But if for some reason you don't, install iTunes to your computer by going to apple.com/iTunes.
Turn on your iPhone 3G. Wait for your phone to navigate you to the passcode screen. Hold down the Menu button on the screen and the power button at the top of the iPhone 3G device at the same time. Hold both buttons for about 10 seconds or until the Apple logo pops up on your screen.
Release the power button but continue to hold the menu button on the screen. Hold the menu button for about 10 seconds or until your iPhone 3G prompts you to connect to iTunes via an Apple USB cord. Since you are already connected to your computer via the Apple USB cord you shouldn't have to do anything except wait for Apple iTunes to open on your computer.
Click the "OK" option when iTunes opens and prompts you to restore the settings on your iPhone 3G. iTunes should do this automatically upon opening on your computer. If it does not automatically prompt you to restore the setting on your iPhone 3G, check the USB connection between your iPhone 3G and your computer.
Wait while iTunes restore the settings on your iPhone 3G. This may take several minutes.
