How to Install an HP LaserJet 3050 Printer Without a Disk
Hewlett-Packard, also known as HP, is a company that manufacturers computers, software and computer hardware. The company ships more than one million printers per week. One of these printers is the HP LaserJet 3050 printer, an "all-in-one" device with printing, faxing and copying capabilities. Thankfully, for those who lose the installation disk, HP provides free drivers for download on its website for many of its printers, including the HP LaserJet 3050. The driver allows your computer to recognize the printer and installs the necessary software for you to operate the device.
Plug the HP LaserJet 3050 printer into a power source. Connect the printer's USB cord to your computer. Turn the printer on.
Open your web browser and visit the Hewlett-Packard website.
Click on the "Support and Drivers" button on the toolbar.
Select "Download drivers and software (and firmware)." Type "HP LaserJet 3050" in the search text box and press "Go."
Choose your operating system by clicking on the appropriate link.
Scroll down the page until you see the "Driver" section. Click on the "Download" button next to the driver. Some operating systems have multiple driver choices for this printer. However, most users require the first choice, with "PL6" listed at the end of the driver's name.
Press the "Save File" button from the pop-up window. Once the driver finishes downloading, press "Run" to install. The driver is 15.2 MB in size; download times vary depending on your Internet connection.
Follow the onscreen prompts to finish your installation. Once completed, your HP LaserJet 3050 printer is ready for use.
Tips & Warnings
- If the driver doesn't work, you might need the PostScript or PL5 driver. Visit the Selecting the Correct Printer Driver page on the HP website (see Resources) and try downloading a different driver.
