How to Install Microsoft Office Home & Student 2010 License

By Gina Poirier

If you have a trial version of Microsoft Office, you must purchase the licensing rights for full access to the program. The main component to a license is a Product Key, which you receive when you buy the software. With Office 2010, you can also buy a Product Key Card in case the software is already installed. This card that contains the Product Key enables you to skip the software installation process and immediately activate your license.

Step 1

Purchase a Microsoft Office Product Key. They are available at most computer software retailers or you can visit Microsoft's website (Microsoft.com) to purchase and download Microsoft Office Home and Student. You will receive the Product Key in a confirmation email.

Step 2

Run the Activation Wizard. To do this, click the Windows Start menu and select "Office 2010." Then click "Activate."

Step 3

Provide your 25-character Product Key when prompted by the Activation Wizard. This will activate your software's license and give you full access to Office programs.

Tips & Warnings

  • These instructions apply only if you have a trial version of Microsoft Office installed on your computer. If you do not have any Office software installed but do have a Product Key, you can download the installation software for free from it from Microsoft.com. If you have neither a Product Key nor Office installed on your computer, purchase the software to obtain the software and the Product Key.
