How to Locate an SSID

By TS Jordan

The service set identifier (SSID) is the publicly transmitted name that identifies a particular wireless area network. Locate SSIDs within your vicinity by using your wireless adapter in conjunction with the network settings of your operating system to generate a list of all SSIDs to which you can connect. This typically takes less than a minute to accomplish.

Step 1

Click "Start" and click "Control Panel."

Step 2

Click "Network and Sharing Center."

Step 3

Click "Connect to a network," to locate and generate a list of SSIDs within range.
