How to Look Up People on Facebook

By Greg Lindberg

Facebook is a popular social networking website that allows users to create personalized pages and connect with friends and family. The website also includes many search options for finding people you may know, including people with whom you went to high school or college. Facebook will accumulate a list of people you may know after you’ve added friends to your account, based on being friends with specific people. Once you locate a person you know you can then add him as a friend or send him a personal message.

Things You'll Need

  • Facebook account

Step 1

Go to the Facebook website and log into your account by entering your email address and password. Click on the “Login” button. If you don’t have a Facebook account you can create one by clicking on the “Sign Up” button.

Step 3

Filter your search by entering “Location,” “School” or “Workplace” at the top of the page and click on the “Refine Search” button. Click on the “Add as friend” option next to a person’s profile in order to send them a friend request.

Step 4

Click on the “Friends” option again and scroll down to the bottom of the page to the “Search for People” section. Enter the name or email address of the person you want to find and press the “Enter” key on your keyboard.

Step 5

Click on the “Friends” option and scroll down the page to the “Find People You IM” sections. Click on the “AOL Instant Messenger,” “ICQ Chat” or “Windows Live Messenger” option to import your contact lists from an application in order to search for people you know.
