How to Make a FaceTime Call On an iPad 2

By Michael Porto

A distinct feature among tablet computers on the iPad 2 is the ability to use FaceTime to make a video call. By using a simple Wi-Fi connection, you're able to make video calls using either of the device's two cameras. You must have a strong connection to the Internet and call someone else who has FaceTime. This can be someone who has an iPad 2, or someone who has FaceTime included on his iMac or iBook. If you can satisfy these two requirements, you're ready to make a FaceTime call using your iPad 2.

Step 1

Tap "FaceTime" to open it. Tap "Create New Account" if you don't already have an Apple ID. Follow the on-screen prompts and enter a valid email address that will become your Apple ID. Use an email address that other people will use to call you on, such as your personal email address.

Step 2

Tap the "FaceTime" icon on your home screen and enter your Apple ID and password if you haven't done so already. Verify that the email address you've entered is the one that you want people to call you on. It can be the same one as your Apple ID.

Step 3

Tap the "+" icon to add a contact to call. Enter the name, email address and phone number of your new contact.

Step 4

Select your new or existing contact and press his email address to begin the FaceTime call. The video chat appears once the call is made and you now have the ability to change the camera orientation.

Step 5

Tap the rotating camera icon to toggle between the front and the back camera during the video call. You can also rotate your iPad to change the general orientation of the video from portrait to landscape or vice versa.

Step 6

Press the "Home" button and select another application if you wish to open an app during your FaceTime call. You can check other information while still using the video feature on the iPad 2.
