How to Make a New User Account on Your Computer

Computers have separate accounts for each user, so multiple users can share one computer easily. With user accounts you can protect your files from other users and have your own set of preferences and your own unique desktop picture and screen saver. Setting up a new user account on a computer is if easy if you are running Windows Vista or Windows 7 on your PC.

Things You'll Need

  • Windows Vista or Windows 7

Step 1

Click on the "Start" button in the lower left hand side of the screen.

Step 2

Click on the "Control Panel."

Step 3

Click on "Add or Remove User Accounts" from the User Accounts and Family Safety menu.

Step 4

Click "Create New Account" in the lower left hand side of the window.

Step 5

Enter an account name and a user type. Press "Create Account."

Tips & Warnings

  • You can choose between a Standard account and an Administrator account type.
