How to Make Calls With Facebook

By Abby Vaun

In July 2011, Facebook announced its new video calling feature. The new feature, made possible thanks to a partnership with Skype, allows Facebook users to call their friends directly from the Facebook website for free. Before you can start making calls with Facebook, you first have to set up video calling on your computer. However, after you set up video calling, you can make free calls to your available Facebook friends any time you're logged into your Facebook account.

Step 1

Navigate to the Facebook Video Calling page, and click the "Get Started" button on the left side of the page. A sidebar appears on the right side of the page.

Step 2

Click the name of a friend with a green dot next to the name. The green dot means your friend is available to chat. A chat window appears.

Step 3

Click "Okay" on the pop-up above the chat window. The pop-up reads "Givea Call."

Step 4

Click "Set Up" in the Set Up Video Calling? dialog box. You must download and install a Facebook plugin to set up video calling capabilities on your computer.

Step 5

Click "Allow" when prompted. The plugin will begin downloading. When it's done, your video call will begin.
