How to Make Music Symbols on Facebook

By Marina Martin

Facebook status updates and comments can contain more than just letters, numbers and punctuation. You can also include music symbols by using HTML code; also, in the case of an eighth note and beamed eighth note, add them by using the "Alt" key on your keyboard. Since Facebook updates don't accept raw HTML code, you have to copy and paste any music symbols derived from HTML. Seven music symbols are available via HTML: quarter notes, eighth notes, beamed eighth notes, beamed sixteenth notes, flats, naturals and sharps.

Step 1

Log into Facebook.

Step 2

Click inside the Share box or a comment box; compose a new message.

Step 3

Hold down the "Alt" key while typing 13 on your keyboard's number pad to insert an eighth note.

Step 4

Hold down the "Alt" key and type 14 on your keyboard's number pad to insert beamed eighth notes.

Step 5

Highlight the music symbol of your choice on an HTML symbol resource website (see Resources). Press "Ctrl" and "C" to copy that symbol. Click inside your Facebook status update or comment box. Press "Ctrl" and "V" to paste that symbol into your Facebook message.
