The top line in your Microsoft Excel spreadsheet typically contains the column headers, which tells you what data belongs in which column. As you add more rows further down the sheet, the column headers scroll off the page. This makes it easy to confuse the columns and begin adding data in the wrong cells. To make referencing easier, Excel allows you to freeze the top row so it is always visible.
Open your spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel.
Click the "View" tab in the ribbon.
Click "Freeze Panes" in the "Windows" group and click "Freeze Top Row" to make the top line stay visible.
