How to Measure Laptop Size

By Daniel Hatter

Laptop screens come in many different sizes. No matter who the manufacturing company is, all laptops are sized using the same method. Finding out the size of your laptop is quite simple. All you need is a tape measure or a yardstick. This process will work on any screen or display, including laptops, monitors and TVs.

Things You'll Need

  • Tape measure/yardstick

Step 1

Take your tape measure or yardstick and place one end at the lower-left corner of the viewable area of your laptop screen. Do not include the trim area (surrounding the actual screen) in your measurement.

Step 2

Place the other end of the tape measure or yardstick at the upper-right corner of the viewable area of your laptop screen.

Step 3

Write down or commit to memory the reading. The diagonal measurement is the official screen size of your laptop.
