How to Merge Two PowerPoint Presentations Together & Maintain the Format
With all the different templates, backgrounds, fonts and slide styles, Microsoft PowerPoint presentations are like snowflakes -- no two are ever the same. After you've spent the time to create a PowerPoint theme, you don't want to lose all that work when merging it into another presentation. But you wouldn't want to start from scratch and have to recreate everything either. Instead, preserve your PowerPoint formats when merging slides and create one big deck from two smaller ones.
Double-click the PowerPoint icon or navigate to it on the computer and start the software. Click the "File" tab, click "Open" and browse to the first presentation, the one you will merge the second presentation into. Double-click the name of the presentation and it will open with the first slide showing and the slide deck on the left side of the screen.
Double-click the icon again to open a second PowerPoint window and browse to the second presentation. If you have two monitors, open one on each.
Click the window with the presentation to copy to give it focus and, if using a single monitor, bring it to the screen. Click one of the slides on the slide deck on the left side of the screen to put the slide deck in focus. Click the "Select" button on the right side of the ribbon below the "Home" tab on the second slide deck. Click "Select All." Note that all the slides in the slide deck are highlighted in yellow.
Press the "Ctrl" and "C" keys to copy the slides. Click into the slide deck on the original presentation. Place the cursor in between the slides on the original deck where the new slides should be merged, such as between slides 2 and 3 or after the very last slide in the deck. Press the "Ctrl" and "V" keys to paste in the new slides, maintaining their formatting.
Reshuffle any slides around the deck, if you wish, by clicking one and dragging it up or down the slide deck into its new place.
Close the second slide presentation, the one you copied, without saving it. On the newly merged slideshow, click the "File" tab, click "Save As," type a name for the combined presentation and click the "Save" button.
