How to move Adobe Creative Suite to new computer

By Steve Heap

Adobe Creative Suite is a package of applications that are purchased and installed together. Typical packages include Photoshop, Acrobat, Premiere, Flash, Encore, Fireworks, Illustrator and more. Adobe permits the suite to be installed and active on two computers. If you are replacing an old PC with a new one, you must deactivate the license on the old machine before installing Creative Suite on the new one.

Things You'll Need

  • Adobe Creative Suite and License Number
  • Computer
  • Internet connection

Step 1

Make sure the old computer is connected to the internet. Open one of the applications, except Photoshop or Acrobat, in Creative Suite. Click "Help > Deactivate..." In the pop-up window, check "Erase my serial number from this computer after deactivation completes." Click "Deactivate."

Step 2

All applications in the Creative Suite are now inactive. Install Creative Suite on the new computer and enter the license number when prompted.

Step 3

Open one of the applications in Creative Suite. It will automatically connect to Adobe and reuse the activation. If it doesn't, click on "Help > Activate..." to activate your programs.

Tips & Warnings

  • If "Deactivate" is grayed out, hold your cursor over the word "Deactivate" until it becomes active.
  • Transfer your files from the old computer before you scrap it.
