How to Open an ODT File Extension

By Kristen Waters

The "ODT" file extension is used for the Open Document Text format, created by Sun Microsystems. It is the default format for text documents created in the OpenOffice word-processing suite. Microsoft Office software does not have a native way to open ODT files. In order to view this type of file, you can download the free OpenOffice software, install a plug-in for the Microsoft Office software, or open the file online at Google Docs or Zoho Writer.
