How to Play a CD-R on a Computer

A CD-R is a recordable disc that allows you to burn and store a variety of data, including photos, documents and music. Many people also use a CD-R to create a music mix with their favorite MP3s. If you want to play a CD-R on your computer, you can use Windows Media Player. The music player is free and is installed on all Windows platforms. You can also use the program to rip the songs from your CD-R to your computer.

Step 1

Locate the CD drive on your computer. If you are using a desktop computer, the drive will be located near the top of the computer. If you are using a laptop, the disc drive will be located on the right or left side of laptop.

Step 2

Press the "Open" button on your disc drive.

Step 3

Place the CD-R in your disc drive, and then close the disc drive. Windows will recognize the CD as an audio disc, and the "AutoPlay" dialog box will appear on your screen.

Step 4

Double-click the "Play audio CD using Windows Media Player" option. Windows Media Player will open and the songs on your CD-R will start playing automatically.

Step 5

Adjust the volume by using the "Volume" slider. You can click and drag the slider bar to increase or decrease the sound level.

Step 6

Click the "Next" button to skip a song. Windows Media Player also provides you with shuffle and repeat options. Click the "Shuffle" button to create a random playlist. If you want to repeat a specific song, click the "Repeat" button.
