How to Play MP4 Files in Media Player

By Will Conley

You can play MP4 files in Windows Media Player by adding the videos to your Windows Media Player video library. You must have the MP4 files stored on your computer's hard drive as well as the latest version of Windows Media Player.

Things You'll Need

  • MP4 video
  • Latest version of Windows Media Player

Step 1

Launch Windows Media Player.

Step 2

Add MP4 files to your Windows Media Player library. Go to "File", "Manage libraries" and "Videos". Click "Add..." and select the folder(s) in which your MP4s are stored on your hard drive. Press "OK".

Step 3

Wait a few moments while Windows Media Player adds and indexes your MP4 files. If your MP4 files are exceptionally long, or feature-length, this could take a few minutes.

Step 4

Click "Video" in the left navigation pane. Your MP4 files will appear in your video library.

Step 5

Select an MP4 video in your video library and double-click it. It will now play in Windows Media Player.
