How to Print a PDF Document

Adobe's Portable Document Format (PDF) allows authors to distribute documents that look and print exactly the same way, regardless of the operating system used to open the file. If you want to print PDF files, you must use PDF viewing software. Adobe Reader, Foxit Reader, or Sumatra are three widely used applications that allow you to view and print PDFs quickly and at no charge. Download and install them to begin printing PDF files with just a few clicks.

You can print PDF documents using your computer and a printer.

Step

Open a Web browser and log on to the website for Adobe Reader, Foxit Reader, or Sumatra (see Resources).

Click the "Download" or "Free Download" link and save the installer file to your computer when prompted.

Close all open programs.

Step

Open the installer file you downloaded in Step 2 by double-clicking its icon. Follow the directions presented on the screen to install the PDF reading application on your machine.

Double-click the icon of the PDF file you want to print. The file opens using the program you installed in the previous step.

Click "File" in the top menu bar and select the "Print" option.

Select the name of the printer you want to use.

Click "Print."
