How to Print an Address on an Envelope Using Word

Perhaps you have poor penmanship. Maybe you want the mail piece to look as professional as possible. It could simply be you are curious about how the task is done. Whatever your reason is for wanting to print an address on an envelope using Microsoft Word, it's a pretty basic task. Microsoft Word is designed to specifically perform a wide range of word processing tasks, including printing an envelope. Printing an envelope is just one of many mailing option functions available in Word.

Things You'll Need

  • Microsoft Word 2010
  • Microsoft Word 2007

Set a Default Return Address in Word 2010 (Optional)

Step 1

Launch Microsoft Word.

Step 2

Go to the "File" tab. Select "Options." The "Word Options" window will open.

Step 3

Select "Advanced" in the Word Options menu. Scroll down the Advanced Word Options window. Stop at the "General" section.

Step 4

Enter the return address you want to set as the default in the "Mailing Address" field box. Click "OK" to save the new setting and close the Word Options window. This address is now the default return address.

Set a Default Return Address in Word 2007 (Optional)

Step 1

Launch Microsoft Word.

Step 2

Click the Microsoft Office button in the upper left corner of the window. Select "Word Options." The "Word Options" window will open.

Step 3

Select "Advanced" in the Word Options menu. Scroll down the Advanced Word Options window. Stop at the "General" section.

Step 4

Enter the return address you want to set as the default in the "Mailing Address" field box. Click "OK" to save the new setting and close the Word Options window. This address is now the default return address.

Print an Address on an Envelope (Word 2007 & 2010)

Step 1

Go to the "Mailings" tab. Select "Envelopes" in the "Create" section of the Mailings menu ribbon. Select "Options."

Step 2

Enter the delivery address in the "Delivery address" field box. Enter the return address in the "Return address" field box or use the default address you set up in the first section.

Step 3

Click the "Envelope Options" tab. Select the size of your envelope. Go to the "Printing" tab. Select your preferred print feed method. For example, face down with the envelope positioned lengthwise to the right. There are pictorial diagrams to help you visualized your choices.

Step 4

Insert an envelope into the printer. Orient the envelope in a manner consistent with the feed option selected in Step 3.

Step 5

Click "Print."
