How to Program the Direct TV Remote

By Chris Waller

With Direct TV, customers get high-definition programming sent to their homes which they can control through a digital cable box. Guides, movies and video recording are all functions of this box. A remote will also come with your Direct TV box. It allows you to program other devices that make up your home entertainment system into its memory. With this process, you can set all of your electronic equipment to work with your remote with a just a few minutes of time and a few easy steps.

Things You'll Need

  • Direct TV remote

Step 1

Make sure that the device you are programming is turned on. Turn off all other devices to ensure no interference will occur during the programing process. It is smart to also make sure fresh batteries are installed in your Direct TV remote to prevent power loss.

Step 2

Slide the mode switch at the top of your Direct TV remote to the desired position for the device that you wish to program. Use the aux settings if your device does not match the preset listings.

Step 3

Hold down both the mute button and the select button located near the top of the remote above the number pad. Keep them both pressed down until the power light at the top of the remote blinks twice.

Step 4

Enter 9911 on the number pad in the center of your Direct TV remote. The light at the top of the remote will blink twice again.

Step 5

Press the channel up button on the remote. If your device does not respond, push the channel up button again. Keep pressing this button until the device turns off. Once this occurs, press the select button to save the code. If the power button blinks three times before the device responds, you will not able to program this device.

Step 6

If not all the buttons on your remote work for your device, repeat the process, hitting the channel up button until you find a code that gives your remote full functionality with your device.
