How to Put Music on an iPad
Apple's iPad tablet provides a nearly complete computing experience for individuals who require a mobile touch-screen device. It also retains much of the music-playing functionality that made the iPod personal audio player so popular. You use the same process to put music on your iPad that you do to put music on your iPod. Once you have downloaded Apple's iTunes software to your computer, you can transfer music files from your computer to your iPad.
Open your web browser and go to the download page for iTunes on Apple.com.
Click the "Download" link at the left side of the window and save the file to your computer.
Double-click the downloaded installation file and follow the on-screen prompts until the program is installed.
Connect your iPad's USB cable to the port on the bottom of your iPad, and then connect the other end to a USB port on your computer. The iTunes software launches automatically.
Click "File" at the top of the iTunes window, and then click the "Add to Library" option.
Locate the folder on your computer that contains your music files, and then click the "Select Folder" or "Choose" button at the bottom of the window.
Click your iPad under the "Devices" section in the left column of the iTunes window.
Click the "Music" tab in the center of the window.
Check the box to the left of "Sync Music."
Click "Sync" at the bottom of the window.
Tips & Warnings
- You can also download music from the iTunes store directly to your iPad, provided that you have a wireless connection. Tap the "iTunes" icon on your iPad's home screen, and then search for the song or album you want. Click the button displaying the price next to the song, and then type your password to confirm that you want to purchase the item. It downloads directly to your iPad.
