How to Put Pictures in a Zip File

By Si Kingston

A zip folder compresses the files within it, making the files smaller. The smaller file size is useful for saving files on a hard drive or other storage devices, and when transmitting multiple files over the Internet. A zip file can contain several files in one folder and its smaller size can download faster. You can compress many different file types including pictures. Windows Explorer can compress and zip your pictures into a zip folder.

Add Pictures to a New Zip File

Step 1

Create a new folder to house the pictures. To do this, right-click in an empty space on the desktop or within a folder. Select "New" and "Folder." You can name the folder anything you want.

Step 2

Drag all pictures from the save location, and drop them into the new folder.

Step 3

Right-click on the new folder and select "Send to."

Step 4

Select "Compressed (zip) folder" and Windows will create a new zip folder containing the pictures.

Add Pictures to Existing Zip File

Double-click on the zip folder to open it.

Step 2

Drag the folder that you want to add the pictures to from the zip folder. Drop that folder outside of the zip folder, or in another folder on the computer.
