How to Read SMS Messages on a PC

Managing your cell phone can be a lot easier if you use your computer to browse through the files. By connecting your mobile phone to your computer, you are able read SMS messages in your cell phone as well as manage, store and delete files. Most mobile phones today can be connected to the computer with the use of a data cable plugged to a USB port of a computer. Some require software installation for syncing, while others can be connected to the computer via Bluetooth.

Things You'll Need

USB cable

Step 1

Insert the software CD of your cell phone into the optical drive (CD/DVD-ROM) of your computer. Wait for the installer to launch automatically. Otherwise, navigate to your CD/DVD drive and run the installer from there. Reboot the computer if necessary.

Step 2

Use the USB cable that comes with your cell phone and connect it to your computer by plugging one end into the mini-USB port of your cell phone and attaching the other end to a USB port of your computer. Wait for the computer to recognize the device.

Step 3

Launch the program that is linked to your cell phone. Wait for it to recognize your mobile phone. Otherwise, navigate to the “Get Connected” option to sync your mobile phone to the computer. When the phone is successfully synced, the files in your cell phone will become accessible.

Step 4

Navigate to the Messages or SMS folder. Browse through the Inbox, Outbox and Trash folders and read SMS messages from there. Depending on the kind of cell phone you are using, you may also delete and transfer SMS messages to other folders.

Bluetooth

Step 1

Ensure that your computer has a Bluetooth device installed or is Bluetooth-ready. The cell phone you are using should be Bluetooth-ready as well.

Step 2

Turn on the “Bluetooth visibility” in your cell phone. If your phone uses Windows mobile operating system, select “Start,” and then “Comm Manager.” Choose “Settings” and then select “Bluetooth.” Finally, select “Turn on Visibility.”

Step 3

Use the computer to detect Bluetooth devices within range. Click on “Start” and then “Control Panel.” Select “Bluetooth Devices” and select the name of your cell phone from the list. You will be prompted if your computer and phone are successfully connected.

Step 4

Navigate to the Messages folder and start reading SMS messages sent to your cell phone.
