How to Reboot Your Computer Without a CD
With a PC or Mac computer, you can use the operating system installation CD to run important diagnostic tests or utility programs. However, the CD is not needed for basic computer tasks--such as rebooting your system. On occasion, computer users will need to reboot their machines in order to install new programs or update their systems.
Close all applications and program windows that are currently open by clicking on the "X" symbol in the upper-right corner.
Open the Start menu by clicking on the icon in the lower-left corner of the screen.
Click on the "Shut Down" button. A pop-up window will open with several shutdown options.
Choose "Restart" from the list of options, and then click the "OK" button. The computer will shut down, and once it is fully turned off, the system will reboot and load the Windows operating system.
Close all open applications and program windows by clicking on the red button in the upper-left corner.
Click on the apple icon in the upper-left corner of your desktop.
Choose the "Restart" option from the apple menu.
Click on the "Restart" button to confirm your decision. Your system will shut down and then reboot automatically.
