How to Recover a Saved-Over Word Doc

By Amie Martin

If you accidentally overwrite a document in Word 2007 or Word 2003, you can still recover the saved-over version. Microsoft Word automatically saves backup copies of your documents for you. To recover an earlier version of a Word document, you only need to know where to look; this depends on which version of Microsoft Word you are using.

  • Computer
  • Microsoft Word

Step 1

Launch Word 2007 and click the Microsoft Office button. A floating window will open.

Step 4

Look for your document name with the file extension ".wbk" and click to open it.
