How to Remove a Mac Virus

Macintosh computers are known for their resistance to viruses and other corrupt system files that may try to install themselves on the Mac's system. However, there are occasions when viruses may find their way into your Mac computer and wreak havoc. Using a Mac virus removal program will enable you to remove any viruses you have on your Mac.

Things You'll Need

  • Internet access
  • Mac virus removal software

ClamXav

Step 1

Navigate to Softonic (see Resources) and click on "Free Download" to save ClamXav to your Mac.

Step 2

Install the ClamXav Anti-Virus engine by clicking "Install Now" when prompted. Select "Continue" after reading the welcome screen. Enable any preferences you would like in the "General Preferences" tab. Click "OK."

Step 3

Select "Start Scan" to start scanning your Mac for viruses. Once done, any viruses found will be displayed. Click on them and select "Delete" to remove the viruses and fix your Mac.

MacScan

Step 1

Navigate to MacShareware (see Resources) and click on "Download" to save MacScan to your Mac.

Step 2

Install MacScan to your Mac and open the program. Go to "File" and "Scan" to scan your Mac for any viruses.

Step 3

Select the viruses to delete and click on "Delete" to successfully remove the viruses from your Mac.

iAntiVirus

Step 1

Navigate to PC Tools (see Resources) and click on "Get Free" to save iAntiVirus to your Mac.

Step 2

Install iAntiVirus to your Mac and open the program.

Step 3

Select "Scan My Mac" to scan for any viruses. Once the program has finished scanning, delete any viruses by selecting "Remove."
