Satellite receivers and DVRs like those provided by Dish Network may periodically need to be rebooted to address technical issues. This is common among all satellite and cable receivers, not a problem particular to Dish receivers. A reset is likely the first step any Dish technical-support rep will have you perform. By knowing how to do this, you might be able to resolve any technical issues your receiver experiences without having to spend time on the phone with a Dish tech-support rep.
Hold down the "Power" button on the front panel of the DVR for 10 seconds. You will see the receiver shut down; let go of the "Power" button once it does.
Allow for the Dish DVR to reboot. Dish Network receivers do not need to be powered on manually but rather power themselves on once they are done rebooting. So do not touch the receiver during the reboot process; simply allow it to run through its full boot cycle and wait for it to power itself on.
Reset the DVR by unplugging the power cable from either the electrical outlet or surge protector into which it is plugged. Leave the power cable unplugged for 30 seconds, then plug it back in. Again, the receiver will power itself on when it is done rebooting.
