If you are unsure of the password used to access your Westell modem, the security of your wireless network is compromised. Each Westell modem comes with a default user name of "admin" and a password of "password." If you have changed your password and forgotten what it is, you will need to reset the entire network to factory settings so the default password is accepted. The process of resetting your password takes less than one minute, but will require you to reconfigure your wireless network.
Insert a paper clip or pointed object into the back of the modem's recessed reset button for 10 or more seconds. All the lights on the modem will flash and restart, informing you the modem has been reset.
Browse to http://192.168.1.1 in your Web browser. Type in the user name "admin" and password "password," which is the default user name and password for Westell. If the user name and password do not work, refer to the user guide for your particular Westell model to find the default user and password.
Navigate to the security settings and change the user name and password once logged in. Depending on your Internet service provider, the way in which you access the password settings may be different. For example, if you are using Verizon with your Westell modem, the very first page of the user settings will allow you to change the password.
