How to Reset the BIOS Setup Utility Password

By Stephen Lilley

When you buy your computer and set it up for the first time, the BIOS setup utility does not have a set access password. Pressing the computer's BIOS access key enters the BIOS and no password prompt is present. If you have defined a password to block others from entering the BIOS setup utility, resetting the password involves reverting it back to its original state -- that is to say, removing the password entirely.

Step 1

Turn on the computer. Press the BIOS access key to load the computer's BIOS. Enter the current BIOS password into the password prompt to load the main BIOS screen.

Step 2

Highlight "Set Supervisor Password." Press "Enter."

Step 3

Highlight "Change Supervisor Password." Press "Enter."

Step 4

Leave the "New Password" prompt blank and press "Enter." This will remove the BIOS password, resetting it to its default.
