How to Save YouTube Videos on Your Desktop

By Kevin Lee

Just because YouTube doesn't have a "Download" button, that doesn't mean that you can't download a YouTube video. Several online sites allow you to enter the URL of a YouTube video and save the video to your desktop. Once you save it, you don't have to connect to the Internet to view it. Some users edit saved YouTube videos and upload them to other video-sharing sites. All you need to download a YouTube video is the video's URL and an online YouTube video-conversion site.

Tips & Warnings

  • When selecting a file format in which to save a video, choose a format that your media player supports. When in doubt, choose .wmv. Any computer with Windows Media Player will play that video format.
