How to Search for a Gmail Address by Name

By Bryan Clark

Gmail, short for Googlemail, is Google's e-mailing system. Gmail addresses used to be available by invitation only, but were rolled out for free in 2007. Because of the large amount of free storage space, encrypted servers for better security and other features, including a spam filter and the ability to access Gmail from any mobile phone, Gmail is used by many people all over the world for both personal and business use. It is possible to search for a Gmail address by name.

Step 1

Sign into Gmail by going to www.gmail.com and clicking "sign-in" on the upper-right-hand corner.

Step 2

Input your e-mail address and password and then click "sign-in." This should take you right to your Gmail inbox.

Step 3

Go to the right-hand side of the screen and click on "Contacts."

Step 4

Type the name you wish to search for into the "Search" box at the top left-hand corner of the screen. If you have the person in your contact list, the e-mail address should appear. If not, try the next step.

Step 5

Run a search through Google using the person's name and the words "Gmail address."

Step 6

Try searching for the name on a social network site, such as LinkedIn or Facebook.
