How to See Old Skype Conversations

By Morgan O'Connor

Skype keeps your conversation history with your contacts indefinitely. If you wish to delete this history, you must do so manually. You cannot only delete conversations with a certain contact, however; you must delete your entire conversation history at once. Unless you have deliberately done this, you can view your conversation history on Skype. Depending on what you are looking for in your past conversations and how much you chat with a particular contact, you can choose to view months or years of history or only a few days.

Step 1

Open Skype if you have not already done so. Sign into the account with which you had the conversations you wish to view. You cannot view other users' past conversations on Skype even if they occurred on the computer you are using, so be sure to sign into the correct account.

Step 2

Click on the name of the contact in Skype's left panel with whom you had the conversation you wish to view. For example, if you want to read an old conversation with Christopher Jones, click "Christopher Jones" in Skype's left panel.

Step 3

Click the time period from which you wish to view conversations in the main portion of Skype. The bottom section of this portion, just above the area where you type messages to your contact, displays time periods such as "Today," "Yesterday," "7 days," "30 days" and more. Click the period that contains the conversation you wish to view.
