How to Send ZIP Files Through Email

By Kristen Waters

Zip files are compressed, archived files. They can contain a single file or multiple files. A zip utility can make a very large file small enough to send through email. It can also be used to send many files as a single file. When adding a zip file to an email, the file is called an attachment. All email programs support attachments. Most Internet service providers and online email programs have a maximum size of around 25 MB for email attachments.

Step 1

Open your preferred email program.

Step 2

Type the recipient's email address in the "To:" text box.

Step 3

Type a subject in the "Subject:" text box.

Step 4

Compose your message in the message window.

Step 5

Click the "Attach" or "Attach File" button in the tool bar at the top of the screen.

Step 6

Browse for the .zip file that you want to attach. Attach it to the email.

Step 7

Click the "Send" button to send the email and the file.
