How to Set Up Multiple Accounts in Outlook 2007

By Eric Som

The ability to create multiple Outlook 2007 accounts can be very helpful, especially if you have more than one account and you would like to send and receive all your emails on one platform. Fortunately, Outlook 2007 supports this capability. The Post Office Protocol-Version 3 (POP3) is a common platform used by both email client programs and email service providers to retrieve emails from various servers. Generally, the process of creating an account in Outlook 2007 for the first time is not much different from that of adding an additional account.

Configuring the Primary Account

Step 1

Launch Outlook 2007 and then go to the "Add New Email Account" screen by clicking "Next" when the start-up wizard opens. If this is not your first time opening the email client program, you can go to the "Add New Email Account" screen by selecting "Tools" and then "Account Settings."

Step 2

Type your name, email address and password in the "Name," "Email Address," "Password" and "Retype Password" boxes, and select "Next."

Step 3

Wait as Outlook 2007 automatically configures your email client, which may take about two minutes, if not less. After completing the process, the message, "Your POP3 email account is successfully configured," should appear.

Step 4

Click "Finish" and then wait for Outlook to download your emails. If Outlook does not download your emails, select the "Send/Receive" button on the Outlook 2007 ribbon. You may also manually check your email by going to "Tools," selecting "Send/Receive" and choosing "Send/Receive All."

Configuring an Additional Account

Step 1

Click "Tools," choose "Account Settings" and then select "New." The "Add New Email Account" window opens.

Step 2

Choose the "Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP or HTTP" radio button and then click "Next."

Step 3

Enter your information in the "Name," "Email Address," "Password" and "Retype Password" fields, and click "Next."

Step 4

Wait as Outlook 2007 configures your account automatically, which should only take about two minutes, if not less.

Step 5

Select "Finish" when the message, "Your POP3 email account is successfully configured," appears.
