How to Setup Gmail With Outlook 2007

You can have your Gmail email messages sent directly to your Microsoft Outlook 2007 account. You will have to make a few changes to your Gmail account settings, but once you do this, you won't have to check multiple accounts to read all your emails. You won't have to cancel or change your Gmail address either. All the messages will just be forwarded to your Outlook email address.

Things You'll Need

  • Gmail account
  • Outlook 2007

Step 1

Log into your Gmail account. Access Gmail at Type in your username and password before pressing the "Sign In" button.

Step 2

Click on the "Settings" tab on the upper-right corner of the page and then select "Forwarding and POP/IMAP."

Step 3

Select the "Enable IMAP" option, and then click "Save Changes."

Step 4

Open Microsoft Outlook 2007. You can either double-click the icon on your desktop or open it by clicking on the "Start" button in the lower-left corner, and then clicking on the "Outlook" program.

Step 5

Select "Do Not Upgrade" when the pop-up appears. Click "Yes" to save the changes.

Step 6

Type in your Outlook display name, Gmail email address and Gmail password in the "Add New Email Account" box that appears.

Step 7

Press the "Manually Configure Server Settings or Additional Server Types" box to begin merging the two accounts together. Press the "Next" button in the lower right corner when you're done.

Step 8

Select the "Internet E-mail" option. A pop-up window will appear and you will have to enter your Outlook user name and Gmail email address again. Make sure the "Account Type" says "IMAP" in the drop-down menu. The "Incoming Mail Server" should say "," and the "Outgoing Mail Server" should read "" Type in your Gmail address again under "Logon Information," and then enter your Gmail password again. Click "Next."

Step 9

Click on the "Tools" menu, and select "Options" and then "Mail Setup." Your Gmail address will be listed there. Be sure to click on it and then press "Next."

Step 10

Click on the "Advanced" settings tab and make sure the incoming server has the number "993" in it and the outgoing server says "587." If the numbers are different, you can click on either box and manually type in either number. Click "OK."

Step 11

Click the "Outgoing Server" tab and make sure there's a check mark in the box that says "My Outgoing Server (SMTP) Requires Authentication." If this box is missing a check mark, manually click on the box to add the check mark. Click "OK," "Next," "Finish," "Close" and "OK" to start receiving your Gmail messages in your Outlook 2007 account.
