How to Setup Yahoo With Outlook 2007

While you can check your Yahoo email account in a web browser, some PC users prefer to send and receive messages through the Microsoft Outlook desktop client. Yahoo accounts use the POP protocol, which means that when you connect to your account through Outlook, messages are removed from the Yahoo servers and downloaded to your local hard drive. Yahoo POP access is fully compatible with Outlook 2007.

Things You'll Need

  • PC running Windows XP or later
  • Microsoft Outlook 2007

Step 1

Launch Outlook 2007 on your PC.

Step 2

Open the "Tools" menu at the top of the window and choose "Account Settings."

Step 3

Press the "New" button and then choose the "Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, or HTTP" option.

Step 4

Check the box next to "Manually configure server settings or additional server types" and then click "Next."

Step 5

Choose the "Internet Email" option and press "Next" again.

Step 6

Enter your full name and Yahoo email address in the appropriate fields. Then set the account type to "POP3" and use "" as the incoming server and "" as the outgoing server.

Step 7

Fill in your Yahoo user name and password in the "Logon Information" section and then click the "More Settings" button.

Step 8

Go to the "Advanced" tab. Set the incoming server port to 995 and the outgoing server port to 465. Make sure the SSL option is enabled for both incoming and outgoing connections.

Step 9

Go to the "Outgoing Server" tab. Check the box next to "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" and choose the "Use same settings as my incoming mail server" option.

Step 10

Press "OK," "Next" and "Finish" to complete the email setup process.
