How to Share a Link on Twitter

Twitter is a popular social networking tool that allows you to send short messages called “tweets” to other Twitter users who are following you. If you discover an interesting Web page or have a Web page of your own that you would like to share with other Twitter users, you can copy and paste a link into your twitter feed to share it.

You can share a Web page link on Twitter.

Copy the Link

Step

Open your Web browser and go to the Web page that you would like to share.

Step

Click once on the website’s link in the browser address bar. This should highlight it in blue.

Step

Right click on the URL and choose “Copy” from the menu. This will save a copy of the website link temporarily.

Shorten the Link

Step

Go to a free online service such as bit.ly, Tiny URL or ShortURL to shorten the link if your URL is very long. Since Twitter messages are limited in the number of characters you can type, the shorter you can make your URL, the more information you can provide in your tweet.

Step

Right click on the text box on the website and choose “Paste” from the menu. This should paste a copy of your link.

Step

Press the button next to the text box and allow the website to shorten the URL that you pasted.

Step

Copy the shortened link provided by the service. This may look like a strange string of letters and numbers, but it will re-direct visitors to the original link you wanted to share.

Post the Link in a Tweet

Step

Log in to your Twitter account.

Step

Type a short description of the Web page link that you want to share in the “What’s Happening?” text box.

Step

Right click in the text box and choose “Paste” from the menu. This will paste a copy of the URL or shortened URL.

Step

Press the “Tweet” button to send your tweet and share your link with everyone who is following you on Twitter.
