How to Stop MS Office From Configuring

By Thomas King

When trying to access Microsoft Office, you may be presented with an error message that states: “Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Office...” or “Configuring Microsoft Office...” The error message may eventually go away and let you access Microsoft Office, or it may never go away and prevent you from accessing Microsoft Office. There are two common solutions to this problem. You may want to back up your system or create a system restore point before attempting the solutions.

Changing the Start Menu

Step 1

Right-click on the \"Start\" menu and select \"Properties.\"

Step 2

Click on the \"Start Menu\" tab.

Step 3

Click \"Classic Start Menu\" and then click \"OK.\" You should now be able to access Microsoft Office by selecting it from the Start menu.

Using Run

Step 1

Click on the \"Start\" menu.

Step 2

Type \"Run\" into the Search Programs and Files box and press \"Enter.\" The Run box opens.

Step 3

If you have Microsoft Office 2003 installed, type \"reg add HKCU\\Software\\Microsoft\\Office\\11.0\\Word\\Options /v NoReReg /t REG_DWORD /d 1\" into the Run box and click \"OK.\"If you have Microsoft Office 2007 installed, type \"reg add HKCU\\Software\\Microsoft\\Office\\12.0\\Word\\Options /v NoReReg /t REG_DWORD /d 1\" into the Run box and click \"OK.\"If you have both versions of Microsoft Office installed, type both commands, one at a time.

Step 4

Restart your computer.
