How to Track Mobile Cell Phones by GPS Use on the Internet
Perhaps you would like to keep track of a few employees throughout the day to make sure that they aren't slacking off. Maybe you just want to know where your kids are and whether they are on their way home from school. Whatever the case using mobile phones, the Internet and GPS is a cheap and easy way to track people.
Things You'll Need
- Web-enabled cell phone
- GPS tracking software
Get some web-enabled cell phones. To make things easier you can get prepaid phones from places like Boost, Target, or Walmart (see resources). This will keep you from having to deal with monthly bills.
Look for a GPS service that suits your needs. There are a few free ones that you can consider. Some of these include Mologogo, Instamapper and Google Maps for Mobile. These all have basic GPS capabilities for both tracking and navigating. However if you need something that will give you detailed reports on things such as speed, mileage, and idle time then you may want to consider a tool like Accutracking, which costs $9.95 per month as of 2010.
Go to the website of the service that you have chosen to use and register. You will need to enter a user name, password, phone number and e-mail address and click "Submit." You will need to repeat these steps for every cell phone that you are interested in tracking.
Wait for a few minutes and you will get a text message with a URL and download instructions. Follow the instructions to download and install the software.
Go to the website and log in. You will get an image of a map with a blinking dot on it along with the user name. That dot is the cell phone. To track it simply follow it on the map. You will be able to log-in to the site from any computer, PDA, or smart phone that has access to the Internet. If you wish to get a 30 day record of where the phone has gone simply click on the "History" tab at the top of the page. If you want to add other people to track in your account simply click on the "Add Friends" tab at the top and enter their user name. They will need to confirm it, but once they do they will appear on your map as well.
